About the role
We're a growing consultancy looking for a technically grounded, business-aware professional to join our team. This is a perfect opportunity for someone with solid Oracle, SQL and Linux experience who wants to expand into Oracle APEX development - and prior APEX experience isn’t essential - we can give you what you need to pick it up quickly. This hybrid, hands-on and strategic role offers the chance to take ownership of day-to-day technical operations while growing your skillset in a supportive, flexible environment.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting and enhancing customer Oracle APEX applications
- Taking ownership of customer operations including support queries, small changes and light enhancements, with potential responsibility for bigger development activities
- Managing and mentoring junior developers
- Handling data loading, cron jobs, user support, and system tweaks
- Planning and delivering technical tasks with minimal supervision
- Participating in client interactions and internal process improvements
You must have:
- 5+ years of IT experience, ideally in small teams or varied environments
- Well-developed technical and interpersonal skills
- Strong Oracle SQL and PL/SQL skills
- Comfortable Linux skills (CLI, scripting, debugging, cron, basic admin)
- Data operations experience (ETL pipelines, scripting, system integrations)
- Version control experience (Git or similar)
- Agile project environment experience (sprints, bite-size deliverables and continuous delivery)
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently, learn new technologies and expand your skillset
- Experience with BI/reporting tools (Qlik, Power BI, etc.)
- Web technologies knowledge (SSL, REST APIs, XML)
- Familiarity with Confluence/Jira or similar project management tools
What we're looking for:
- Technical depth - not someone who relies on Google or AI for every code or data issue
- Business awareness - you understand the 'why' behind requirements, not just the 'what'
- Proactive mindset - low-maintenance professional who takes initiative
- Growth mindset - ready for a fresh challenge and willing to expand your skillset
- Communication skills - able to represent the company in support and delivery calls
This role could be perfect for you if:
- You're capable but underused and want to make a real difference
- You enjoy working across data, development, scripting, and systems - and taking full ownership of end to end support
- You want to learn Oracle APEX and grow into a more full-stack role
- You prefer working with people who care over corporate bureaucracy
- You value flexibility, autonomy, and common sense
What we offer:
- Remote-first culture with occasional team catch-ups and client site visits
- APEX training and support - we'll give you 1-2 months to get up to speed
- Flexible working options
- Variety and autonomy - no micromanagement or rigid processes
- Direct impact - your work will be valued and visible internally and directly with the end-users of applications
- Supportive team environment with opportunities for mentoring
About APEX Training
If you're comfortable with SQL, PL/SQL, data structures, and basic web concepts, you'll pick up APEX quickly with our support. We're looking for strong technical fundamentals and the right mindset - we can teach the APEX specifics whilst you add value in other areas.
This role would suit someone who:
- Has worked in consultancy or small teams, wearing multiple hats
- Has built and supported business applications
- Has experience mentoring junior staff or contractors
- Is looking for a career refresh
- Wants to step up from a more junior role - or to broaden your breadth of skillset and exposure before moving on to the next stage in your career
Ready to take on a role where your technical skills and business acumen will be truly valued? We're looking for the right person, not just the fastest applicant. If this sounds like your next challenge, we'd love to hear from you.
Please note: UK-based candidates only due to legal and customer requirements.
