The Client: Multi-disciplinary Building Services consultant founded in 1997 offering the full range of MEP services nationwide from their 4 UK offices. Senior staff drive projects from feasibility through to delivery across a diverse range of sectors from data centres and retail outlets, to care homes, schools and offices.
The Role: Providing design and technical advice on projects for the respective discipline. Provide a professional and technical consulting and design service to the client encompassing of, but not limited to:
- Site surveys
- Meetings
- Feasibility studies
- Due diligence
- Design
- Technical reports and specifications
- Commissioning
- Defects inspections
Assist with multiple projects in a co-ordinated manner, meeting project deadlines and cost requirements. Work under the clear direction of others and interpret the needs of a project where applicable, take a discipline lead role on smaller projects as required. Work in co-ordination with all other design team members, internal and external, and provide excellent client care and reporting throughout the whole project life cycle.
Understand the project appointment and scope of work following a briefing and be aware of any limitations of the duties on different projects. Have an understanding of project costs and the impact of designs and recommendations on the overall budget for the scheme and monitor time against these costs. Take ownership of your workload to meet agreed timescales and deliverables.
Attend meetings as required to represent the discipline and be able to convey other disciplines on behalf of the Company. Communicate proactively and professionally with internal and external project teams and clients when required, attending meetings in a professional manner. Arrange and carry out site surveys as required and prepare the appropriate reports.
Demonstrate and deliver acceptable technical and report writing skills. Deal with day-to-day queries from site related to the specific discipline and report to the client or via a senior member of the project team as required. Carry out condition surveys for the specified discipline for combining into an overall report for the client. Contribute to the overall feasibility study for projects for the specified discipline.
As required produce designs, calculations, room data sheets, equipment schedules and specifications and other technical information as required to meet the agreed project stage/level, and coordinate these with others in conjunction with the CAD Department. Understand project risks and produce combined MEP Residual Risk Reports in accordance with the CDM regulations with input from other disciplines and team members as required.
Promote sustainability and energy efficiency within designs and recommendations and discuss the appropriate systems to implement with the senior team members. Carry out and report on defects inspections, snagging and input into the witnessing of commissioning. Check work for compliance with good practice and the project brief and raise any concerns or potential variations with a senior member of the team. Comment on the as-fitted drawings and O&M documents. Provide excellent client care and assist in opportunities for new and repeat appointments and opportunities, support business development and continuous improvement.
