Role: You will be working as part of our multidiscipline team of Project Managers, Architects and Engineers in our London Office delivering Data Centre projects across RIBA Work Stages 1-5 for projects in the UK and Europe. You will work under the direction of the Technical Director/Principal Engineers responsible for the projects but be capable of working independently and supervising Assistant Engineers to deliver designs/compliance reviews in accordance with the Client’s requirements/Project Basis of Design and related National Standards, according to mutually agreed time allocations.
Duties:
- Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
- Management of the delivery of design, 2D or 3D modelling work undertaken by remote design offices.
- Prepare electrical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets.
- Review electrical equipment vendor drawings, data interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning.
- Responsible for the effective management of change orders.
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.
- Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
- Quality review production drawings and project-related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.
- Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems.
- Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations.
- Prepare and present technical reports for clients.
- Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
- Responsible for QA/QC process adherence (review and checking of their own and work undertaken by engineers under their supervision prior to this being offered for final review).
- Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
- Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science/Engineering in Electrical Engineering or related degree/international qualification.
- Chartered Status preferred.
- CSCS Card holder preferred.
Skills:
- A minimum of 8 years’ post-graduate electrical services design experience including 2 years’ experience delivering the MV/LV electrical services designs for Data Centre projects.
- Performed the role of Compliance Monitoring/Technical Advisor on Contractor Design and Build projects with an understanding of application of The Employer’s Requirements.
- Experience of undertaking site inspections of electrical services installations for compliance with the design/Specification materials and workmanship and Statutory Requirements.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of the design of resilient MV/LV electrical distribution systems to provide concurrently maintainable and fault-tolerant systems.
- Competent in the design of LV distribution systems with a working knowledge of BS7671 and IEC 60364 and in the use of Trimble Electrical Designer 2D.
- Competent to undertake internal lighting designs and in the use of DIALux.
- Competent in the use of Revit to produce 2D SLDs and 3D models.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, collaboration, time management and problem-solving skills.
- Critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving team environment.
Preferred:
- Experience of electrical design on projects in Finland, Germany, Iceland or Italy.
- Knowledge of MV/LV power system analysis and competent in the use of Etap.
