Overview

Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the nursing assistant performs various duties in the care and treatment of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Medical Center.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care to patients in accordance with their individualized care plans
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, oral care, dressing, grooming, and toileting
• Assists in transportation and transfer of patients, ensuring comfort and safety during movement
• Monitors and records vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data, reporting any abnormalities or concerns to the nursing team
• Collects specimens following policy and is active in obtaining necessary specimens
• Completes Accuchecks as directed
• Ensures accurate and prompt documentation
• Assists with patient hygiene and comfort measures, including turning and repositioning patients to prevent pressure ulcers
• Supports patients with feeding and hydration needs, adhering to dietary restrictions and assisting with mealtime activities
• Collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and promote positive patient outcomes
• Completes hourly rounds to assigned patients and anticipates patient needs, responding promptly to call lights and patient requests
• Provides emotional support and companionship to patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and compassion in all interactions
• Maintains a clean and organized patient environment, including changing bed linens, stocking supplies, and ensuring cleanliness of patient rooms
• Adheres to infection control protocols and hospital policies to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for patients and staff
• Participates in ongoing education and training to enhance skills and knowledge in patient care and hospital procedures

Qualifications

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Credentials

• BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification

Education

• High school graduate or equivalent

Other Information

• A student nurse currently enrolled in Nursing School, with completion of one semester of nursing school including clinical courses.
• One semester of clinical experience or entering senior year of nursing school with clinical lab experience included in curriculum.
