Job Role
You’ll be working across guest rooms, bar and kitchen areas, and shared spaces, making sure everything is safe, functional, and comfortable for guests. A practical mindset, problem-solving attitude, and willingness to get stuck in are essential. No two days are the same. One day you might be repairing a bunk bed, the next helping with deliveries, setting up decorations for an event, cleaning the building exterior, or supporting housekeeping during a busy turnaround. Flexibility, initiative, and a hands-on approach are just as important as practical maintenance skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance around the hostel and bar, including basic plumbing, electrical work, painting, furniture repairs, lighting, and general upkeep.
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues quickly to minimise disruption for guests and staff.
- Perform preventative maintenance and identify issues before they become larger problems.
- Keep guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and outdoor areas safe and presentable.
- Assist with deliveries, stock movement, and general operational support around the building.
- Support housekeeping when needed with tasks such as stripping beds, moving linen, or room preparation.
- Help set up decorations, signage, and event-related installations during special events and busy periods.
- Work closely with reception, housekeeping, and bar teams to support daily operations.
- Respond efficiently to urgent maintenance issues during hostel operations.
- Maintain organised storage areas, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Coordinate with external contractors when required and report larger technical issues to management.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous maintenance, handyman, facilities, or trade experience preferred.
- Practical problem-solving skills and a hands-on attitude.
- Comfortable working in a busy hospitality environment.
- Flexible, reliable, and able to manage changing priorities.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, painting, or general building maintenance.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Physically comfortable with lifting, moving stock, climbing ladders, and active work throughout the day.
- English required; additional languages are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, and confined spaces).
