Job Title: Named Midwife for Safeguarding

As the Named Midwife for Safeguarding, you will play a key role in supporting the Head of Safeguarding to ensure effective, compassionate, and legally sound safeguarding practices across Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Your focus will be on protecting vulnerable children and families, guiding staff in meeting statutory responsibilities under the Care Act, Children\’s Act, and Mental Capacity Act.

This role offers leadership opportunities, supporting positive change, and ensuring the safety and dignity of those most at risk.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Hold the role of Named Midwife for Safeguarding and work closely with Named Doctors for Safeguarding Children and Young People to meet statutory safeguarding responsibilities as outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and relevant legislation.
  2. Participate in partnership working, including Local Safeguarding Children\’s Boards sub-groups.
  3. Advise police, social care, and other agencies on health matters related to safeguarding children.
  4. Ensure robust safeguarding systems and processes are in place across the Trust.
  5. Provide expert advice to the Trust Board on Child Protection and Safeguarding Children.
  6. Support the safeguarding team in delivering quality services.
  7. Offer expert advice, information, and support to professionals and carers about safeguarding vulnerable patients, ensuring policies and procedures are implemented.
