Applications are invited for this full-time post at a 660-bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. This appointment will be made in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England) 2002.
This is a 2-year post offering modular training in various aspects of anaesthesia, including:
- General Surgery
- Urology
- Dental
- Major Colorectal Surgery
- Intensive Care
- Head and Neck Surgery
- ENT Surgery
- Bariatrics
- Paediatric Surgery
The specific modules will depend on the applicant’s educational needs. Teaching will be provided to prepare for fellowship exams and support clinical learning. The post-holder may receive training in Obstetric Anaesthesia & Intensive Care, as well as General Anaesthetic experience, based on their requirements.
The department encourages participation in audit, research, and educational activities. The role involves participation in a full-shift rota covering Obstetrics, Intensive Care, or Emergency Theatre out of hours, depending on experience and cover needs.
Applicants must have at least three years’ experience in Anaesthetics. MTI trainees will work alongside UK anaesthetic trainees, with responsibilities including:
- Pre-operative assessment, anaesthetics, and early post-operative care for routine and emergency surgery patients, both during and outside of hours.
- Providing obstetrics cover during and outside of hours.
- Providing critical care cover, including cardiac arrest response and paediatric resuscitation.
The Trust serves a growing population of around 700,000 across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, across two hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Travel between sites may be required. The Trust is committed to delivering excellent patient care using current clinical knowledge and technology.
