Anticipated Temporary Station Commander Development Opportunities
Prior to the Station Commander Promotion Gateway, anticipated to commence Autumn 2025, the service is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who would be interested in temporary Station Commander development opportunities, anticipated to arise over the next 6 months.
The Station Commander role is aligned to the nine day fortnight working pattern, and the base location will be subject to specific role allocation. The temporary posts will not be attached to the flexi duty system and will be offered at Station Commander A Development pay rate.
Expressions of interest for this vacancy are now invited from substantive Watch Managers, or current or recent Temporary Watch Managers that meet the following criteria:
- have attained competence in the role of Watch Manager on a Wholetime Duty System
- hold a recognised Incident Command Level 1 qualification
- hold a valid pass at WM gateway
- hold IFE L3D5 Leadership & Management and IFE L3D6 Fire Service Operations & Incident Command
Individuals will have a thorough understanding of, and commitment to managing personnel and resources on different duty systems and should demonstrate excellent leadership qualities that align with the NFCC Leadership Framework, and our service Professional Behaviours and values.
Successful applicants at shortlisting will be invited to attend a temporary generic Station Commander interview. The interview will assess the candidate &©s ability to perform the roles and responsibilities undertaken by Station Commander. Appointment to temporary Station Commander posts will be based on the selection process outcome and a review of the candidate &©s suitability for specific roles that may become available.
Those successful at interview will be eligible for temporary appointments only that may arise prior to completion of the next Middle Manager SC gateway process. Individuals will be encouraged to undertake elements required for the role of Station Commander at the next available opportunity.
Candidates who have a live disciplinary sanction for either Attendance or Conduct at the time of application closing date will not normally be eligible to engage in the selection process. Candidates pending the outcome of a disciplinary matter will not normally be eligible for appointment until the outcome is known. (Exceptions may be made in instances where extenuating circumstances apply).
