Job Description: Internal only. Based at Bedford or Luton, with travel across the county. 12 Month Fixed Term Contract.

We are looking for a proactive, collaborative and detail-oriented Remediation Co-ordinator to strengthen our co-ordination of remediation-related risks in residential buildings identified as not yet having started remediation work. Funded by Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), the Remediation Co-ordinator will have an impact across all areas of Service Delivery, leading multi-agency engagement and implementing tailored interventions for residents in affected buildings, co-ordinating technical intelligence and monitoring remediation progress to inform compliance and enforcement strategies, maintaining accurate, up-to-date operational information on remediation sites to support incident planning and firefighter safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Centralise premises intelligence, creating a single, live remediation log for all affected buildings in Bedfordshire and ensure the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) National Remediation System is accurate.
  • Co-ordinate, support and undertake fire safety audits and inspections in premises identified in the National Remediation System (NRS) database in accordance with Service policy and procedures in order to promote and enforce compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Enhance Stakeholder Engagement, acting as the single point of contact for Responsible Persons, Local Authorities, and the Building Safety Regulator for these buildings.
  • Co-ordinate intelligence across internal and external partners, establishing and leading a working group involving Local Authorities and the Service (Protection) to review remediation premises and progress regularly to inform compliance and enforcement strategies.
  • Be responsible for Operational Readiness for identified buildings, ensuring that Site-Specific Risk Information (SSRI) and Premises Information Box (PIB) data for remediated buildings are updated within agreed timescales.
  • Develop and deliver a range of resident engagement interventions, promoting safer behaviours during remediation, in line with the National Fire Chiefs Council’s (NFCC) Person-Centred approach to Home Fire Safety.
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of vulnerable residents within the remediation buildings and work with them and the agencies around them to understand and respond to evolving risks, particularly around actions in case of emergency.

About you:

  • Significant experience of working with members of the public, internal and external stakeholders to plan, co-ordinate and achieve identified outcomes.
  • In-depth experience of carrying out fire safety inspections.
  • Knowledge across Prevention, Protection, and Response, including understanding the person-centred approach to Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSVs), having a working knowledge of Site-Specific Risk Information (SSRI) and its operational value, and being familiar with the benefits and limitations of Premises Information Boxes (PIBs).
  • Ability and confidence in communicating effectively (orally and in writing), demonstrating a high standard of interpersonal skills, taking the target audience, the message to be conveyed and the desired outcomes into account.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, researching and analysing problems using a range of resources, devising appropriate solutions and implementing effective plans to deliver actual and anticipated service delivery needs.
  • Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety (or equivalent) and professional registration/accreditation (e.g., Technician or Graduate IFE).
  • GCSE English & Mathematics at grade 4 or above or equivalent, or a relevant vocational qualification at Level 2.
  • Current full driving licence (manual or automatic) with no pending issues.
