Purpose of Post

  • To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the setting.
  • To give support to other personnel within the setting; ensuring that communication with all members of the team is respectful.
  • To implement the daily routine which supports the needs of the children.
  • To work as a member of the Nursery Team to ensure that all children attending the setting receive high quality care, are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences, which meet their individual needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate a programme of meaningful activities suitable to the age range of children in your area in conjunction with other staff.
  • To keep professional observations on your key children and a solid understanding of their next steps.
  • Work with parents/carers of special needs children to give full integration in the setting.
  • Work to build excellent relationships and effective communication with other staff members.
  • Provide reassuring, knowledgeable and professional feedback to both parents and external agencies.
  • To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, fundraising events.
  • To be flexible within working practices of the setting.
  • Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc.
  • Work alongside the manager and senior staff to implement the setting ethos and visions.
  • Recording accidents using the correct methods.
  • Ensure that any bumps/injuries to the head are followed up with a phone call to parents.
  • Incident forms must be signed by a member of the management team.
  • Look upon the setting as a “whole” where can your help be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children.
  • Ensure you follow all procedures in relation to the collection of children.
