Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,552 and £26,754 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 30 hours per week – 40 weeks per year

About the role: We are currently seeking a Technician in Science to join our Science department at The Bedford College Group. As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Technical Support & Lab Preparation – Provide hands‑on technical support for Science teaching, preparing materials, equipment, and resources for practical sessions and ensuring their effective use in laboratories.
- Health & Safety Management – Oversee H&S compliance across sites, including risk assessments, COSHH requirements, and safe disposal of laboratory waste in line with regulations.
- Equipment & Resource Management – Assemble, maintain, distribute, and collect lab equipment and materials, ensuring readiness, cleanliness, and proper storage.
- Collaboration & Practical Support – Work closely with teaching staff to support practical delivery, provide technical advice, trial experiments, and assist with student project work and events.
- Professional Development & Compliance – Stay up to date with scientific developments and training, while adhering to safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and professional standards.
About you:
- Qualifications & Knowledge Base – Level 2 Science qualification (or equivalent) with English and Maths (or willingness), strong understanding of lab procedures, and health & safety practices.
- Practical & Technical Experience – Experience preparing and delivering science practicals, working in labs or prep rooms, and supporting demonstrations for individuals and small groups.
- Industry & Educational Experience – Background working in science environments and supporting students/young people, with a focus on customer service and high performance.
- Interpersonal & Professional Skills – Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, promote equality and inclusion, and communicate clearly while contributing positively to the team.
- Flexibility & Development Commitment – Willingness to train (e.g., first aid), travel across sites, adapt working hours, and continuously update skills while maintaining strong health & safety awareness.
