Technician - Plumbing / Electrical in Kempston

Location: Bedford College – Kempston Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,552 and £26,754 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

• Workshop & Learner Support: Provide practical support to lecturers, trainers and students within Electrical Installation, Plumbing and wider Construction workshops, helping learners develop skills and achieve their qualifications.
• Workshop Operations & Resource Management: Manage workshop stores, stock, tools and equipment, maintain accurate inventory systems, oversee equipment loans, and monitor stock levels and expenditure in line with budgets and College procedures.
• Equipment Maintenance & Technical Support: Service, repair and prepare tools, equipment and work areas, manufacture teaching aids, replace damaged components, and ensure resources are available and fit for purpose for teaching activities.
• Health, Safety & Site Compliance: Maintain safe, clean and secure workshop environments, undertake risk and COSHH assessments, ensure compliance with relevant regulations, and support day-to-day site security arrangements.
• Safeguarding, Engagement & Professional Standards: Support student discipline, participate in marketing and engagement events, promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and undertake ongoing training and professional development.

About you:

• Qualifications & Industry Knowledge: Holds a Level 2 construction trade qualification, with relevant experience in the electrical or plumbing industry, strong knowledge of safe working practices, wider construction trades, and a commitment to achieving and maintaining required qualifications.
• Workshop Support & Technical Skills: Able to prepare, maintain and repair tools and equipment, manage stock inventories, support workshop operations, and contribute to delivering a high-quality learning experience for students.
• Communication, Teamwork & Professionalism: Communicates effectively with staff and students, works collaboratively with colleagues, values diverse perspectives, and promotes the College’s professional reputation through high standards of conduct and performance.
• Initiative, Values & Continuous Improvement: Self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision, demonstrates the College values of Student Focus, High Performance, and Respect, Openness and Honesty, and is committed to ongoing learning and development.
