Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 36 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time UK based contract, and you are required to have the Right to Work in the UK. Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer sponsorship and any offer of employment will be subject to evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.

About the role: We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant (Level 2) to join our English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.

  • Classroom & Learning Support: Provide in‑class support for English and Maths learners (GCSE and Functional Skills), assisting with delivery, activities, and resource preparation.
  • Learner Support & Inclusion: Support students with additional needs, including EHCPs, delivering small group or 1:1 assistance to build confidence, independence, and engagement.
  • Progress Monitoring & Assessment: Assist with assessment activities, tracking, recording, and reporting learner progress in collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Engagement & Behaviour: Promote positive behaviour, attendance, and active participation, helping create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaboration & Compliance: Work closely with staff and teams, support use of digital tools, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and professional development requirements.

About you:

  • Qualifications & Educational Background: GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) with a Level 3 qualification in English and Maths, and eligibility for an enhanced DBS check.
  • Teaching Support Experience: Experience supporting learners in an educational setting, with the ability to effectively assist teaching and learning activities.
  • Communication & Teamwork Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Technical & Learning Support Skills: Basic IT skills to support digital learning activities and classroom engagement.
  • Professional Attributes & Commitment: Flexible, learner‑focused approach with a commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and ongoing professional development.
