Role: Associate Lecturer – ESOL

Location: Tresham College – Across Northamptonshire Sites

Salary/Benefits: Salary is Β£25.00 per hour

Hours/Weeks: 15 hours per week

Contract Type: Sessional – Hourly Paid

About the role

We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer to join our Adult and Community Learning and ESOL department at The Bedford College Group.

  • ESOL Teaching & Learner Development – Plan, prepare and deliver ESOL provision for 16-18 and adult learners across Tresham campuses, creating stimulating, inclusive learning that develops real-world language and life skills.
  • Assessment, Tracking & Learner Support – Conduct interviews and initial assessments, track progress, complete documentation, provide clear feedback, liaise with support services and contribute to moderation and awarding-body processes.
  • Curriculum Planning & Resource Development – Design schemes of work and differentiated lessons, prepare learning materials (including ILT resources), plan work experience where needed and contribute to course development and quality improvement.
  • Classroom Management & Teaching Practice – Maintain a safe, well-managed learning environment, set clear expectations, deliver varied teaching activities, review learning objectives, adapt teaching based on learner feedback and reflect on practice.
  • Professional Responsibilities & Compliance – Engage in CPD, uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and college policies, attend meetings and events, support marketing activities and contribute to wider TBCG responsibilities including invigilation.

About you

  • Qualifications & Teaching Requirements – Degree (or equivalent) in ESOL/English, CELTA or Trinity ESOL teaching qualification, GCSE-level English and Maths, and willingness to work towards DET/PGCE.
  • ESOL & Functional Skills Teaching Experience – Proven success teaching ESOL across multiple levels and age groups (including adults/evenings), with experience delivering Functional Skills English.
  • Inclusive Practice & Professional Knowledge – Strong understanding of Equality and Diversity, with the ability to adapt teaching approaches to varied learner needs and promote inclusive, supportive learning.
  • Professional Skills & Personal Attributes – Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, enthusiastic and committed to achieving outstanding learner retention and success outcomes.
  • Flexibility & Mobility – Full driving licence with access to a vehicle for travel across campuses, and able to deliver evening classes as required.
