Hybrid Working Opportunity: This role is eligible for the hybrid working benefit, requiring the successful candidate to attend our Harrietsham office three days per week, with the flexibility to work from home up to two days a week once deemed competent to work independently and in line with the business needs. Your Mission: The IT Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and development of the company’s IT systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and fit for purpose. The role supports users across the business, manages infrastructure and endpoints, and contributes to continual improvement, cybersecurity, and compliance. The IT Engineer also acts as the primary point of contact for the external IT support contractor, managing day-to-day interactions, escalations, service performance, and ensuring third-party support aligns with business, security, and compliance requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure (servers, networks, Wi-Fi, firewalls), working in collaboration with the external IT support contractor where appropriate.
  • Manage and administer Active Directory and Entra ID environments, including user lifecycle management, group policies, and role-based access control.
  • Support and administer hybrid identity environments, including on-prem Active Directory integrated with Entra ID.
  • Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Microsoft 365 services (Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Carry out domain joins, trusts, and authentication troubleshooting.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, backups, and disaster recovery arrangements, escalating to the external IT provider as required.
  • Support IT projects including system upgrades, new site builds, and technology rollouts, coordinating internal and external resources and training staff where necessary.

End-User Support:

  • Provide day-to-day onsite support to users, resolving common hardware, software, and access issues when the external IT support contractor requires.
  • Escalate complex or specialist issues to the external IT support contractor and manage tickets through to resolution.
  • Build, configure, deploy, and maintain laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls in line with company policy.

Cyber Security & Compliance:

  • Support the implementation and operation of security controls (MFA, endpoint protection, patching), working alongside external IT and security providers.
  • Assist with Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus compliance, supporting the organisation’s wider cyber maturity ahead of ISO 27001.
  • Assist with compliance activities relating to UK GDPR, ISO 27001 (where applicable), and internal IT/security policies.
  • Identify potential IT and cyber risks and ensure appropriate escalation and mitigation.

Third-Party & Supplier Management:

  • Act as the primary internal point of contact for the external IT support contractor.
  • Coordinate day-to-day support activities, escalations, and change requests.
  • Monitor service delivery against agreed expectations and raise concerns where standards are not met.
  • Support procurement and renewal of IT hardware, software, and support services.

Documentation & Process:

  • Maintain accurate IT documentation, policies, asset registers, and system records.
  • Ensure work is carried out in line with internal procedures and change management processes.
  • Support audits and reviews by providing technical input and evidence where required.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant qualification in IT, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Systems or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in an IT support or IT engineering role.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • A clear understanding of cyber security fundamentals and data protection principles.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in an IT support or IT engineer role.
  • Proven experience managing Active Directory and Entra ID environments, including user lifecycle management, group policy and RBAC.
  • Experience administering hybrid identity setups, including on-prem Active Directory integrated with Entra ID.
  • Hands-on experience with domain joins, trusts and authentication troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365.
  • Experience supporting hardware, networks, and end-user environments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical users.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a regulated or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards (e.g. ISO 27001).
  • Experience with Intune / MDM, endpoint security tools, or ticketing systems.
  • Knowledge of networking (VLANs, switches, firewalls).
  • Experience with cloud-based business platforms such as HubSpot, Wrike, Monday or similar SaaS systems.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco).
