The job holder must be committed to providing a first‑class welfare, pastoral and medical care service that not only ensures students’ physical and emotional well‑being, but also enables them to feel motivated and empowered to seize every opportunity whilst at Bede’s. The Nurse must work collaboratively with the House Parents to create a home‑from‑home that fosters respect, understanding and inclusiveness within a massively culturally diverse environment.

Responsibilities

  • You will diagnose and treat common ailments with home remedies, administer medication prescribed by a doctor, and oversee the medical care of sick students.
  • You must maintain appropriate boundaries, never becoming students’ friends, act as an ambassador of Bede’s Summer School, and be ready to respond to emergencies before, during and after school hours.
  • The Nurse must exhibit rapid thinking, adaptability, a cheerful attitude and strong organisational skills in a fast‑paced, often demanding environment.

Qualifications

  • First Level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or equivalent, and three years postgraduate experience.
  • Degree Level nursing qualification is desirable.
  • Emergency First Aid qualification / Mental Health First Aid qualification is desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum two years’ experience working with children in a professional context.
  • Experience managing staff is preferred.
  • Experience working in a residential context is preferred.
  • Experience dealing with international students is preferred.
  • The ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast‑paced, highly changeable, highly pressured and often challenging environment is essential.
  • A strong awareness of Health & Safety (specifically as it relates to residential accommodation) and COSHH regulations is essential.
  • Strong and demonstrable organisational skills.

Compensation

  • ÂŁ760 per week.
  • Statutory holiday pay is paid pro‑rata with each salary payment.
  • Accommodation and all meals are provided.

Working Day

  • Hours are long, intense and often demanding, especially on arrival days when many events happen simultaneously.
  • The role requires resilience, prioritisation and the ability to act quickly, including “leaping into action” during emergencies, even outside of normal working hours.
  • Even when off duty, you must be willing to leap into action in case of any emergency that may arise, especially during the night.
