Bede’s Trust is seeking an experienced, diligent, and multi-skilled General Maintenance Engineer to join our dedicated Facilities and Maintenance Team. In this role, you will play a vital part in keeping our vibrant school communities safe, functional, and beautiful. Operating across both of our exceptional school sites in Eastbourne and Upper Dicker, you will deliver a high standard of service, ensuring all general maintenance duties are carried out in strict accordance with current codes of practice, regulations, and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain & Repair: Carry out essential repairs and renewals to the structure and fabric of Trust buildings, including carpentry, basic plumbing, painting, plastering, fencing, and general fabric maintenance.
  • Safety First: Proactively ensure the school environment remains safe and secure for staff, pupils, and visitors.
  • Collaborate & Document: Work closely with the Facilities and Maintenance Manager, maintaining accurate records of completed works.
  • Work Smart: Excel both independently using your own initiative and collaboratively as part of a wider, supportive team.

About You

We are looking for an adaptable, proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic environment and is always willing to learn new skills. Ideally, you will bring:

  • A strong trade background within the Building, Construction, or Facilities industry.
  • A multi-skilled approach to problem-solving with the ability to remain calm and productive under pressure.
  • A sharp eye for detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.

Location: Primarily based at our Prep School in Eastbourne, with travel to the Senior School (Upper Dicker) one to two days per week. This is a permanent position, working 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, Monday - Friday consisting of 07:30 - 16:30 per day. Offering an attractive salary of £31,585.17 per annum along with a range of benefits including:
