We are looking for an Alumni Manager to play a central role in strengthening the lifelong relationships between Bedales and its former students. This position leads the development of a vibrant, inclusive Old Bedalian (OB) community by creating meaningful opportunities for connection, mentorship, philanthropy and advocacy. Working across the school, the Alumni Manager ensures that OBs, former staff and former parents feel valued, informed, engaged and that their involvement contributes to Bedales' mission, ethos and reputation. Bedales School is a unique educational establishment, set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Our aim is to create an environment where questioning, divergent thinking and freedom to learn from mistakes are all encouraged. Central to our success is the sense that each person is a member of our community whose voice is entitled to be heard and treated with respect. Both our staff and students expect of each other the best kind of relationships — co-operative, authentic and trustful.

We seek applicants with strong experience in relationship-driven, customer-facing work, confident event management and the ability to handle sensitive situations with warmth and professionalism. They will be highly organised, adept at managing competing priorities and comfortable using ICT systems, ideally including CRM platforms such as Raiser’s Edge. Excellent communication skills, sound judgement and meticulous attention to detail are essential, alongside the ability to build positive relationships with alumni, colleagues and students. A proactive, empathetic and collaborative approach is key, as is a commitment to safeguarding, equality and Bedales' values. Experience in education, membership programmes or not-for-profit settings is advantageous.

Duties include:

  • Lead a varied annual programme of alumni engagement, including reunions, university gatherings, overseas events and specialist meet-ups, ensuring each is well planned, promoted and delivered to a high standard.
  • Produce regular alumni communications such as digital bulletins and the annual Old Bedalian newsletter, while sharing news across digital channels and maintaining accurate, segmented mailing lists.
  • Manage and maintain high-quality alumni data in Raiser’s Edge, oversee imports and updates, ensure GDPR-compliant data hygiene, and produce engagement reports for senior leaders.
  • Support the Bedales Association through meeting coordination, member communication and initiatives that embed alumni culture among the leaving 6.2 (Year 13) students.
  • Oversee day-to-day alumni relations, including inbox management, community communications, school visits, careers connections and collaboration with the Archivist.
  • Manage merchandise for the John Badley Foundation, support wider External Relations activity including fundraising events, and uphold safeguarding, professionalism and Bedales' values in all interactions.

The post is part time in term time + 3 weeks non term-time (26 hours/week). There is also an additional 100 annualised hours for non-term time work and attendance at Parents' Day (on a Saturday near the end of the Summer term). Alternative/flexible work arrangements can be considered and discussed at interview. The total salary is £22,024 per annum pro rata, calculated on actual hours worked and inclusive of holiday pay. The full time equivalent salary for this role is £36,660.

Free on-site parking, funded Healthcare Cash Plan, pension with Royal London, personal accident cover, life assurance, salary extras benefits platform, employee assistance programme, and free meals are provided during term time.

All candidates will undergo a Safeguarding Suitability Interview and application for an Enhanced DBS and Barred List check and be asked to provide evidence they are eligible to work in the UK, on an ongoing basis, at the shortlist stage of the selection process.
