As Payroll and Employment Tax Compliance Specialist, you will be the in‑house specialist ensuring full compliance with UK employment tax and payroll regulations across the business. This role is central to managing statutory obligations across payroll compliance, employment tax, PAYE Settlement Agreements, National Minimum Wage, benefits taxation, and immigration compliance.
You will work closely with HR, Finance, Payroll Services, and external advisors to manage risk, maintain strong governance, and ensure the organisation remains aligned with evolving UK legislation.
Responsibilities- Act as the internal expert on UK Employment Tax and support the Senior Accounting Officer on compliance matters.
- Lead the annual payroll compliance cycle, ensuring all obligations are completed accurately and on time.
- Manage PAYE Settlement Agreement submissions and prepare the “Other Return” for Employment Related Securities.
- Oversee Short Term Business Visitor reporting and annual Appendix4 submissions to HMRC.
- Identify payroll risks, resolve operational issues, and drive continuous improvement across compliance processes.
- Support audits, maintain risk registers, and ensure key compliance controls are documented and effective.
- Lead compliance activity related to legislative changes such as IR35, National Minimum Wage, and benefit taxation requirements.
- Manage immigration compliance requirements and act as Authorising Officer for UK recruitment and role changes involving non‑UK nationals.
- Strong experience in UK employment tax legislation, payroll compliance, and HMRC regulations.
- Proven knowledge of monthly payroll processing requirements, including P11D, P60, and PAYE Settlement Agreements.
- Experience working with audits, risk management, and compliance controls in a regulated business environment.
- Comfortable working across HR, Finance, payroll teams, and external advisors in a shared services environment.
- Knowledge of benefits administration, pension auto‑enrolment, and statutory reporting requirements is highly valued.
- Immigration compliance experience would be beneficial, although it is not essential.
