Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role/outreach based in Essex for a professional with qualification, experience and knowledge as a Social Worker, and/or Youth Justice Worker and/or Family Support Worker. The postholder will provide assessment and direct support to children and young people, including one-to-one and group work, to help them manage risk, build resilience, and engage positively with education. They will work closely with families and carers, offering practical guidance, advocacy, and early intervention to promote stability and improved family relationships. The role involves collaborating with school staff, local authority teams, youth justice services, and other agencies to develop and implement support plans, safeguarding strategies, and reintegration pathways. Daily tasks include need assessment, networking withexternal aganecies, maintaining accurate case records, attending meetings and reviews, responding to safeguarding concerns, and contributing to behaviour support and wellbeing initiatives across the academy and local mainstream schools.
Qualifications
- Relevant professional qualification in social work, youth justice, family support, or a closely related field, and registration with the appropriate professional body where applicable.
- Experience working with children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, complex behaviours, or at risk of exclusion or involvement in the justice system.
- Strong skills in assessment, planning, and case management, including the ability to develop and review support plans in partnership with young people and families.
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection procedures, and multi-agency working, with confidence in escalating concerns and contributing to professional meetings.
- Excellent communication, rapport-building, and de-escalation skills, with the ability to engage children, young people, and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively with education staff, health professionals, social care, and youth offending services, and to contribute to a positive, trauma-informed school culture.
- Resilience, emotional maturity, and reflective practice, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
- Enhanced DBS check (or equivalent) required; previous experience in an educational or alternative provision setting, and a valid driving license, are desirable.
