Contract: Permanent
Location: London, Bristol or Glasgow
Why Join Us
If you’re a geotechnical engineer ready to take your career to the next level, this is your chance to apply your expertise to some of the UK’s most interesting and challenging infrastructure projects. At Beckett Rankine, the UK’s leading specialist maritime civil engineering consultancy, we deliver projects that protect coastlines, transform waterfronts, and connect communities worldwide.
From designing new international ports to stabilising flood defences or revitalising ageing maritime assets, our projects demand innovative, practical geotechnical solutions. We value fresh thinking and give you the platform to make a real impact.
The Role
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated engineer with 3–6+ years’ experience in geotechnical design, either approaching chartership or recently chartered. Maritime experience is beneficial but not essential – what matters most is your ability to solve complex geotechnical challenges and deliver high-quality solutions.
As a key member of our close-knit team, you’ll:
- Take ownership of geotechnical aspects across all project stages, from due diligence and masterplanning through to detailed design for construction.
- Apply expertise in ground investigations, earth retaining structures, slope stability/revetments, ground improvement, earthworks, and piled foundations (steel and concrete).
- Run geotechnical analyses using Plaxis 2D, WALLAP, Oasys (Python skills a plus).
- Collaborate directly with clients, senior management, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, passing on your knowledge and best practice.
- Contribute to proposals, tenders, and site supervision.
- Help embed sustainability and net-zero principles into our designs.
What We’re Looking For
- A strong Master’s in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
- Approaching or recently achieved chartership.
- Proven experience in geotechnical design (maritime a bonus).
- Skilled in relevant analysis software (Plaxis, WALLAP, Oasys).
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage projects and teams.
- A creative problem-solver with a collaborative approach.
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
What You’ll Get
We believe in supporting your career development while creating an enjoyable workplace. You can expect:
- Flexible working & hybrid options
- Company pension
- Cycle to Work scheme & Rail Ticket Loan
- Modern, air-conditioned offices
- Unlimited refreshments, free fruit & snack bar
- Staff social committee, monthly activities & summer BBQ
- Separate social/lunch space (London)
- Access to private park and tennis courts (London)
We’re a specialist team, not a corporate machine. That means you’ll be given real responsibility early, learn directly from senior engineers, and be part of a company that values innovation, sustainability, and fresh ideas.
Ready to Make an Impact?
If you’re excited by the idea of solving real-world challenges and want to grow your career with a team that values creativity and collaboration, we’d love to hear from you. Email your CV to careers@beckettrankine.com. Apply today – and start building the future of maritime infrastructure.
