It is an exciting time at Becket Keys Church of England School (OfSTED Outstanding in all areas and SIAMS Outstanding in all areas). We are working hard to build upon several years of strong GCSE and A Level successes that have placed us in the top two schools of our kind in East Anglia (according to the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide). We are now seeking a Cover Teacher to join our team.

Do you get on well with other people? Are you interested in learning more about working in a school? Perhaps you are a recent graduate thinking about a future career as a teacher. Maybe you are looking to build classroom experience. Perhaps you are an HLTA or currently a cover teacher looking for a new role in a church school. We would also welcome applications from teachers who wish to have a role with less marking, less planning and fewer wider responsibilities.

As our Cover Teacher you will be part of a small, dedicated team who supervise students in cover lessons when their teacher is absent. You will play an important role in providing a friendly consistent face to students, getting to know them by name and making sure they are clear on what they need to do in the cover lesson. Lessons are prepared and easy to deliver, there is training provided and opportunities to watch others do it, so you can learn from their experience. The hours can be extended (through negotiation) but we are looking for an 8am start and 3:30pm finish as a minimum. All thirteen weeks of school holidays are offered alongside the opportunity to attend our seven INSET days. Classes will cover a range of subjects, student numbers and student abilities. Cover teachers can play to their strengths if they are interested in certain subjects and they can also get involved in the wider life of the school if they wish (for example getting involved in music groups, sports, school plays and so on).

Why Join Us?

  • Valuable school experience—perfect for those considering teacher training
  • Supportive school with welcoming staff and strong Christian values
  • Ongoing professional development and guidance from experienced education trust

What We’re Looking For:

  • Recent graduates interested in entering the education sector
  • People looking for a career change
  • Aspiring teachers who want hands-on classroom experience
  • Experienced Cover Teachers
  • Qualified HLTAs
  • Qualified teachers looking for fewer responsibilities and improved work/life balance

Your Role

  • Deliver set cover lessons to classes of around 25 students.
  • Help support a positive, safe learning environment.
  • Use IT to support delivery of lessons.
  • Build a good relationship with students through regular daily interaction.
  • There are options for colleagues to extend the role and become a valued member of the school community supporting extra-curricular clubs.

Ready to take the next step? The appointee will be committed to our high expectations and core values; we welcome applications from colleagues irrespective of their faith or belief. However, we ask for applicants to appreciate and respect the beliefs of others and have strong moral principles. Staff here are provided with a comprehensive induction programme and laptop, childcare vouchers are available, and childcare is available at a neighbouring provision with discounted rates for staff members. Staff members here also benefit from a guaranteed place for their child in our school.
