Be part of a major aviation project in the Greater London area that will redefine the future of air travel and delivery excellence. You will help build a dynamic team to plan and deliver complex, high-impact work at the heart of one of the region’s most innovative and fast-moving developments. The project scope includes planning, design, integration and delivery of major airfield infrastructure, buildings, systems and associated periphery infrastructure.
In this part-time telework role you will manage the organization and direction of project construction activities and oversee total site management. Your responsibilities include supervising construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance and accounting. You will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and that clients are satisfied. This position may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.
Major Responsibilities
- Work with the customer and other stakeholders to establish an agreed project baseline (scope, schedule, budget and execution methodologies) and then execute against it.
- Develop, nurture and support your team to foster a high-performing and motivated team.
- Develop trusted relations with associated stakeholders, third parties and suppliers.
- Lead and coordinate all aspects of the airfield scope within the programme, ensuring all requirements are fully defined, integrated and managed.
- Lead planning, design, management, interface management and construction management for airfield works, including pavements, drainage, lighting and navigation aids.
- Coordinate all project contractual activities and participate in the development of contract, subcontract or vendor scopes of work, budgets, contract formation and negotiations.
- Establish and ensure compliance with project procedures necessary to perform construction in accordance with project technical requirements.
- Manage and provide direction to multidisciplinary teams to deliver engineering and construction packages.
- Ensure compliance with applicable aviation standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., CAA, ICAO, EASA).
- Coordinate with client, consultants, contractors and internal Bechtel functions to resolve design, technical and operational issues.
- Identify and mitigate project risks related to airfield operations and safety.
- Support stakeholder engagement and provide technical input to support approvals and permits.
- Integrate the airfield scope with other areas of the programme.
- Proven technical expertise and know when to reach out for support from other Bechtel SME’s.
- Plan and implement procedures to ensure construction operations are continuously adhering to engineering designs, specifications, quality standards, schedules and budget.
- Ensure the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into all aspects of construction operations.
- Establish and assure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance.
- Responsible for staffing decisions, performance appraisals and pay reviews.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of airfield engineering, including pavements, drainage, lighting and associated systems.
- Proven experience managing projects in live operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of applicable aviation design standards and safety regulations.
- Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Previous Bechtel experience.
- Experience on UK airport infrastructure projects or with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements.
- Experience with digital design tools, construction management systems and 3D design coordination.
