Overview
In this role you will support the Airfield Construction Manager in planning and coordinating airfield infrastructure for Heathrow’s proposed 3rd runway. You will help prepare key documents for the DCO planning process and focus on enabling works across energy, waste, mechanical systems, and runway facilities. You will work with design and engineering teams to reflect construction requirements in design deliverables, while prioritising safety and environmentally responsible methods. This position offers a chance to shape complex, live-environment construction and deliver a landmark transport project with lasting community impact.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to constructability reviews to optimise sequencing, logistics, and methods
- Coordinate with engineering and design teams to align design deliverables with construction needs
- Support site layouts, temporary works, logistics, and phasing plans for live construction
- Assist in developing construction execution plans, staffing strategies, and resource estimates
- Embed health, safety, and environmental considerations in design and planning
- Draft construction methodologies to underpin planning activities
- Monitor design evolution and scope changes for impacts on methods, costs, and schedules
- Contribute to cost estimates, budgets, risk assessments, and progress reporting
- Coordinate with design on constructability issues
- Ensure Zero Accident Philosophy is integrated into construction operations
- Lead or support construction management resources, including mentoring as required
Key requirements
- Experience as a Construction Engineer or similar role on major civil/infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of construction methods and sequencing for civil and airfield works
- Experience on airfield projects within live operational facilities
- Strong HSE knowledge and a track record of promoting safe working culture
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent registration
- Experience in aviation or major transportation infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of UK construction and safety regulations (CDM)
- Experience planning and executing brownfield projects in live environments
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-disciplinary coordination skills
