Be part of a major aviation project in the Greater London area that will redefine the future of air travel and delivery excellence. The project scope includes planning, design, integration and delivery of major airfield infrastructure, buildings, systems and associated periphery infrastructure.

In this role, you will lead a team and supervise superintendents and/or craft professionals on a project. You will direct craft professional activities and work schedules, coordinate subcontract work activities and team development. Your oversight will ensure craft professionals have the tools required to be productive, comply with project policies, procedures and job-site work rules, and perform within specifications, schedules and budgets.

Major Responsibilities

  • Input into constructability reviews to optimise construction sequencing, logistics and methodology.
  • Coordinate with engineering and design consultants to ensure construction requirements are reflected in design deliverables.
  • Support the development of site layouts, temporary works strategies, logistics and phasing plans for construction in a live operational environment.
  • Assist in developing overall construction execution plans, staffing strategies and resource estimates.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain to develop construction packaging and delivery strategies.
  • Embed health, safety and environmental (HSE) considerations into all aspects of design and planning.
  • Review and monitor robust quality control plans during design and construction phases.
  • Maintain awareness of design evolution, scope changes and their impacts on construction methods, costs and schedules.
  • Contribute to cost estimates, budgets, risk assessments and progress reporting for construction scope.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to assigned project and field personnel, promoting a culture of safety, collaboration and excellence.
  • Establish a design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer.
  • Coordinate with design on constructability issues.
  • Review project control documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.
  • Ensure the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into all construction operations.
  • Lead and support assigned Construction Management resources, maintaining standards, managing, motivating, coaching and mentoring as required.
  • Review contractor quality and commissioning submittals (including ITPs and Daily Reports).
  • Inspect work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, standards and statutory regulations.
  • Produce engineering solutions/field sketches to resolve site-based queries.
  • Coordinate with the Design Management Team to deliver effective commissioning and handover of projects.
  • Support the Contractor in mobilising successfully, including introductions to security and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor contractor progress against plan, report delays or changes.
  • Support continuous improvement of project delivery processes and procedures.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
  • 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, procedures and sequencing for civil and airfield works.
  • Experience working on projects within live operational facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE requirements and a proven track record of promoting a safe working culture.
  • Significant experience as a Construction Manager/Senior Field Engineer or similar role on major civil engineering infrastructure projects.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills with ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound technical leadership and problem-solving under pressure.
  • Excellent understanding of implementation and constructability issues for complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent understanding of quality management for such projects.
  • Good understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental issues associated with the Construction industry.
  • Experience managing project close-out and handover and understanding Building Control requirements.
  • Practical problem-solving skills.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration.
  • Experience in aviation, airfield or major transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of UK construction and safety regulations, including CDM requirements.
  • Experience with NEC contract administration and project delivery frameworks.
  • Prior experience planning and executing brownfield projects in live environments.
