In this role, you will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes as they relate to marine/coastal structures and ports. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. You may also have the opportunity to join the project in Lubiatowo, Poland.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans and conducts independent Civil/Structural work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Civil/Structural engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit.
- Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil/Structural marine components such as seawalls, breakwaters, jetties, quays, etc. according to relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
- Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries for the project to which assigned.
- Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
- Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
- Originates and checks complex Civil/Structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Develops conceptual designs for Civil/Structural engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting.
- Provides coordination and interfaces with outside agencies.
- Involved in the resolution of technical issues during construction and claims.
- Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
- Mentors Civil/Structural engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development.
- Leads constructability reviews.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Comprehensive experience of design and construction of marine/coastal structures and ports including bathymetric surveys, wave hindcasts, forecast, littoral drift problems, breakwater and jetty design, dredging, navigational aids, ship/tanker manoeuvring requirements.
- Substantial experience in the maritime sector, with proven international expertise in the design and delivery of marine structures including seawalls, breakwaters, etc.
- Understanding of port master planning and knowledge of operational conditions, berthing forces and other maritime related loads.
- Knowledge of dredging, hydrology and geotechnical aspects of maritime projects.
- Familiar with provisions of Eurocodes and current codes of practice and design standards and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
- Willingness to travel in support of the project to client, supplier, business partner facilities or to site as required.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
- Hold Professional Engineering Registration or Chartership.
