Known as one of the four most hazardous buildings in Western Europe, the Sellafield Pile Fuel Cladding Silo (PFCS) was commissioned in 1952 to safely store radioactive cladding – pieces of metal tubes used for uranium fuel rods in some of the UK's earliest nuclear reactors. The UK government has partnered with Bechtel Cavendish Nuclear Solutions to deliver a system that will allow Sellafield to retrieve the decades-old waste, package it safely, and dispose of it permanently. The project is part of a UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority program to decommission nuclear storage facilities dating to the early 1950s. The project entails the detailed design, procurement, manufacture, works testing, delivery to site, installation and commissioning of a complex system for cutting access holes into the silo that include shielded access doors, a robotic waste retrieval arm, waste transporters, and repackaging plants. The team also is utilizing virtual reality and mockup training facilities to enhance operations.
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the design and procurement phases of a high-hazard reduction project within the nuclear industry. - Oversee UK and international supply chains, including suppliers with limited nuclear experience. Ensure supplier compliance with nuclear industry standards and project specifications. Promote effective collaboration and performance across the supply chain.
- Ensure strict adherence to NEC3 contract conditions and governance frameworks. Manage contract deliverables, change control, and risk mitigation strategies. Maintain transparency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and monitor project schedules and budgets, including Estimates at Completion (EACs). Track progress against milestones and proactively manage deviations. Ensure financial performance aligns with project forecasts and funding constraints.
- Act as the primary interface with internal and external stakeholders, including the customer. Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities effectively. Balance competing priorities to maintain stakeholder satisfaction and alignment.
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks (threats and opportunities). Develop and implement mitigation and contingency plans. Ensure compliance with nuclear safety and regulatory requirements.
- Plan and allocate resources to optimise delivery efficiency. Monitor utilisation and adjust plans to meet evolving project needs.
