The predicted salary is between 60000 - 80000 £ per year.

In this role, you will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes as they relate to tunnels. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts independent Civil/Structural work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Civil/Structural engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit.
  • Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil/Structural tunnel components according to relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs), and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
  • Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries for the project to which assigned.
  • Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
  • Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
  • Originates and checks complex Civil/Structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
  • Develops conceptual designs for Civil/Structural engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting.
  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data.
  • Mentors Civil/Structural engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development.
  • Leads constructability reviews.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven work experience emphasizing design and construction of tunnels on engineering projects.
  • Familiar with provisions of Eurocodes and current codes of practice and design standards and regulations.
  • Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of tunnels.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel in support of the project to client, supplier, business partner facilities or to site, as required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Vision, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
  • Hold Professional Engineering Registration or Chartership.
