In this role, you will lead design, development, modification, evaluation, and constructability reviews of civil/structural components and processes including tunneling and marine scope. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for civil and structural matters. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s civil/structural aspects are met.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. You may also have the opportunity to join the project in Lubiatowo, Poland should this be something that you may want to do.
Major Responsibilities- Schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for tunneling and marine scope.
- Participates in the design, development and modification of Civil/Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
- Designs structures using knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
- Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
- Originates and checks structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
- Analyses problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions.
- Analyses and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements.
- Assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.
- Completes Civil/Structural documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
- Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project Civil/Structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills- Proven work experience emphasizing design of heavy industrial-type facilities/structures on engineering projects.
- Familiar with provisions of Eurocodes and current codes of practice and design standards and regulations.
- Ability to independently execute the detailed design drawings of structural/site systems of tunnels and marine structures.
- Understanding of construction technologies, constructability principles and site execution practices, particularly within tunneling, marine and groundworks environments.
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.
- Progress toward obtaining Professional Engineering Registration or Chartership.
- Willingness to travel in support of the project to client, supplier, business partner facilities or to site, as required.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc).
- Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.
