Project Overview

The Project is the expansion of an existing process facility located on a Nuclear site in Capenhurst, Cheshire (UK). The facility is being expanded in response to changing market dynamics and will provide a major component of the UK’s energy security strategy. The scope includes overseeing the delivery of FEED and coordinating the delivery of design deliverables to facilitate construction contract award. Upon successful completion of FEED, there is potential for a follow‑on EPCM contract. The role will initially be based in the project design office (Warrington) but travel to the project site (Capenhurst) is required. The role requires full‑time in‑person attendance on the project site after site activity commences.

Job Summary

  • Assist with the management of specialist consultant teams to develop, integrate and implement all project‑related licenses and consents critical to the success of the project.
  • Assist the Environment, Sustainability, Permitting and Consents Manager to ensure that legislative requirements are properly evaluated and interpreted and that plans are in place to achieve and maintain compliance with all necessary licenses and consents applicable to the assigned project.
  • Provide sustainability support to the Urenco Kilns 3 & 4 project, supporting development and implementation of the project Sustainability Management Plan (SMP) and associated plans, and supporting the Net Zero Programme.

"This position is designated as part‑time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in‑person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership."

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Environment, Sustainability, Permitting and Consents Manager on the Kilns 3 & 4 project.
  • Support development and implementation of the project Management Plans including the Sustainability Management Plan (SMP).
  • Support reporting on environmental performance and sustainability, including tracking and reporting on the project’s environmental sustainability performance through Project Sustainability Metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist in the management and recording of environmental metrics, incidents and risks for the project.
  • Coordinate with the customer and other functions (engineering, procurement & construction) and stakeholders to implement, monitor and facilitate progress of the sustainability programme as directed by the Environment, Sustainability, Permitting and Consents Manager.
  • Assist with the management of programme, plan and delivery for all required land‑use planning consents and environmental permitting for construction and operation.
  • Assist in the assembly and interpretation of environmental data, pertaining to water and soil contamination at the construction site.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Relevant degree in town planning, environmental or sustainability related field.
  • Knowledge of environmental key topics and issues on complex infrastructure construction projects.
  • Knowledge of UK land‑use planning policy.
  • Working knowledge of project and risk management processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of basic environmental chemistry and its implications for the environment.
  • Construction site safety practices for working safely around plant and excavations.
  • IT skills, including use of Microsoft packages for the management of the project workstreams.
  • Good communication skills (oral & written) including negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own work demands, set and meet deadlines and follow‑through within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date working knowledge of relevant legislation and industry practice.
  • Be cognisant of the applicable laws and regulations regarding the safe and authorised disposal of waste in the UK.
  • Be knowledgeable in habitat and conservation requirements and be able to apply these to the project.
