The project scope includes planning, design, integration and delivery of major airfield infrastructure, buildings, systems and associated periphery infrastructure.
The H&S Manager will promote a proactive safety culture, ensuring activities are planned and executed safely within a live operational environment. Performs duties on large, relatively complex projects. Works within a PMC/Delivery Partner role. The ES&H Manager develops new approaches to technical problems and provides technical direction for specific tasks as technical ES&H lead including assigning subordinate ES&H personnel. Plans and coordinates work requiring independent judgment and extensive supervisory experience in ES&H across multiple industries; formulates mitigation measures to reduce accidents and environmental impacts. Typically possesses a technical degree in sciences or engineering and broad experience in ES&H. Experience in the aviation sector is critical.
Major Responsibilities- Develops, integrates and implements ES&H Management System aspects to support project-related processes, plans, procedures, systems, methods, and policies; formulates mitigation measures to reduce accidents and environmental impacts.
- Interprets complex requirements and formulates scopes of work, plans, and methodologies to maintain ES&H compliance for the project.
- Provides technical assistance and supervisory direction to ES&H personnel; manages resources and shares best in class ES&H initiatives.
- Supports client-directed feasibility studies, site assessments, and risk assessments; informs project teams of ES&H requirements and ensures incorporation into processes by Contracts & Procurement, Engineering, and Construction personnel.
- Stops work in dangerous situations; stipulates acceptable work practices before resuming.
- Supervises project accident investigations and documents contributing factors.
- Coordinates inspection tours by regulatory compliance officers; accompanies auditors during audits and retains reports for accountability.
- May be required to obtain certification of the Client's programmes (eg OHSAS 18001 or ISO 14001 or equivalents).
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience managing ES&H delivery on complex infrastructure projects; familiarity with OHSAS 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Strong understanding of ES&H regulations, construction environmental issues, and best management practices.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills; demonstrated ability to create safe project environments.
- Previous Bechtel experience.
- Experience in major UK airport or transport infrastructure projects, particularly within live operational environments.
- Knowledge of airport operations, governance processes, and stakeholder landscape.
- Experience in implementing ES&H training programs.
