Project Overview

For more than 70 years, Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) has assisted the UK Government’s nuclear defence strategy and the Continuous at Sea Deterrent. AWE uses nuclear and technical expertise to provide innovative solutions that assist the UK’s counterterrorism and nuclear threat reduction activities. Bechtel is providing integrated, co-located, Client-side Technical Advisory Services (TAS) for this nationally important and varied multi-year infrastructure investment.

Job Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for startup planning and activities on major projects. You will coordinate with project management, engineering, construction, and clients to leverage diverse technical team skills to integrate the startup plan. You will identify risks and trends, manage progress reporting, and proactively course correct to ensure goals, schedules, and requirements are met. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.

Major Responsibilities

  • Be a visible leader in Environmental, Safety, Health and Ethics.
  • Support the establishment and management of the T&C Strategy, T&C Plans and support processes which includes sequencing of major test phases of the projects and supporting the planning effort of the backwards pass schedule.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an integrated testing and commissioning schedule for projects.
  • Define the roles and responsibilities for the T&C organisation.
  • Review designs from a commissioning perspective and give input on requirements such as temporary installations, and work sequencing.
  • Ensure safety programs are in place with contractors and execute role of management and/or oversight of contractor responsibilities.
  • Organise and lead a team to implement the programs and processes generated during the development phase and oversee the contractors’ performance during testing, commissioning, training, operations, maintenance and handover.
  • Develop/deploy a system for measuring and reporting overall testing and commissioning status and for identifying and resolving test failures in support of the projects’ assurance and certification requirements.
  • Ensure set up of Systems Completion and test databases for the discrete tracking of documentation required to complete each phase.
  • Partner with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.
  • Assure consistency in the review, tracking, and monitoring of contractors’ work, deliverables and activities.

Education And Experience Requirements

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs.
  • Ability to prepare meaningful reports.
  • Ability to draft high quality documentation.
  • Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team and manage challenging relationships across a range of entities.
  • Must be self-driven and able to plan and execute work without direct supervision from senior management and/or peers.
  • Strong knowledge of testing, commissioning, O&M, asset data and handover processes.
