Job Summary

Business Development Associate – UK & Ireland Marketing & Business Development (M&BD) team.

Supports growth in Bechtel’s Public Infrastructure business.

Early‑career role to build business development capability and understand strategic, commercial and financial drivers of successful work winning.

Works with the M&BD Manager and senior BD colleagues to support major initiatives, maintain the regional opportunity pipeline, contribute to reporting and governance processes, and help develop client-facing propositions, pursuit material and engagement plans.

Supports analysis of markets, customers, partners, competitors and opportunities externally and manages stakeholder information, opportunity records, activity reporting, proposal inputs and pursuit coordination internally.

  • Major Responsibilities
  • Research and assess target markets, customers, competitors, partners and opportunities in the UK Public Infrastructure market.
  • Prepare concise market, customer and opportunity profiles, turning analysis into practical engagement and pursuit actions.
  • Maintain the regional opportunity pipeline, prospect records and business development reports so information is current, accurate and useful for management review.
  • Support stakeholder management plans, engagement actions and preparation for meetings with new prospects and customers.
  • Assist with proposals, pitches, client briefings and pursuit materials, coordinating inputs across functions and refining content for review or client use.
  • Coordinate New Work Booked inputs, screening material, activity updates and quarterly reporting to FP&A and senior management where required.
  • Manage budgets assigned to prospect engagements, accurately and promptly reporting spending to help ensure budgets and allocations are not overspent.
  • Support members of the M&BD team as required to deliver regional growth targets and maintain disciplined ways of working across multiple concurrent priorities.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree, associate degree, related technical training or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Required Knowledge and Skills

Prior business development experience is not essential.

Candidates should be curious about how businesses grow, how customers make decisions, and how major infrastructure opportunities are identified, shaped and won.

Strong candidates will combine analysis, clear communication, organisation, collaboration and the ability to learn quickly.

Essential Capabilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication, including reports, briefings and clear messages.
  • Research, analytical and problem‑solving skills, with good attention to detail.
  • Good organisation and ability to coordinate multiple priorities.
  • Strong people skills and ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Interest in strategy, commercials and major infrastructure business development.
  • Based in, or able to work from, London and eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable Differentiators

  • Experience supporting bids, proposals, marketing content or client presentations.
  • Experience maintaining opportunity, customer, stakeholder or competitor information.
  • Hands‑on use of AI tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, to support research, analysis, reporting and content development.
  • Exposure to infrastructure, engineering, construction, energy, transport, government, defence or related sectors.
  • Ability to turn research into concise insight and practical recommendations.
