Job Summary: In this role, you will work with one or more of Infrastructure’s core business lines and report to the business line’s Commercial Manager and Business Development lead. You will help support strategic business development efforts including client engagement and relationships, and support the senior team in shaping, negotiating and closing deals. You will also provide commercial assistance, as needed, to projects in execution. You will also be expected to participate in, and ultimately deliver, commercial training.
Major Responsibilities:
- Commercial: Working with the relevant business line’s existing Commercial, Business Development and Legal teams, support the understanding, analysis and development of commercial deals including the deal structure, and overall risk/reward balance. Support the internal process of obtaining management approval, with particular emphasis on the commercial deal, as part of the overall prospect approval process. Supporting the business line’s Commercial and BD team with commercial issues including securing opportunities, preparing for negotiations, ensuring the Project Manager and project leadership team fully understands the commercial basis of the deal, and helping Projects develop commercial plans that complement their project execution plans. Working with the Prime Contracts team and project Legal support to provide commercial support to projects throughout execution.
- Business Development support: Provide support to the BD teams with developing prospect win plans and value propositions and general strategic and tactical assistance. Assist the BD teams with their understanding of different commercial models for our typical contract delivery models, including understanding and presenting on models used in the markets and sectors in which the business lines are active or are targeting. Gain and share an understanding of typical commercial deals in the markets in which we are active.
- Learning & Development: Support commercial training efforts, including preparation of materials and, eventually, assisting in presenting during training courses. Develop white papers (or other knowledge management tools) on varying contract models (lump sum, target price, unit rate, cost‑re, etc.) to be used as tools for both business development and projects in execution. Develop lessons learned papers on Bechtel experience with various commercial models, with a focus on client side/PM roles, including terms and conditions and execution best practices.
Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant experience or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience. 5‑7 years of experience in deal making, commercial structuring, or other strategic development roles. Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualifications in engineering, business, economics, finance, legal, quantity surveying or similar discipline.
Required Knowledge and Skills: Experience interfacing directly with external parties such as government officials, and consultants. Experience performing multiple workstreams simultaneously. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organization, networking and time management skills. Negotiation skills, including experience with successfully closing deals and, preferably, supporting execution teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Willingness to travel as necessary. The candidate will need to demonstrate a successful track record in performing the full range of business functions in a fast‑paced environment with a high degree of ambiguity.
