The purpose of a Quality Controller (QC) is to ensure that products and services meet specific standards of quality and functionality, ensuring that defined company processes and project quality documentation are delivered and adhered to throughout all business activities.
Key Performance Indicators:
- NCRs of shortages/non-conforming goods received at client
- NCRs of non-conforming outsourced components post goods received
- On Time Delivery In Full (OTIF)
- Customer feedback
- Customer issues resolution timeframes
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Execution of quality processes and procedures, report quality variances to the Quality Manager
- Collaborating to ensure quality processes and inspection methods are fit for purpose
- Providing feedback and participation in Continuous Improvement i.e. Lessons learnt
- The monitoring and control of calibrated items and verification tools at all sites
- Ensure all inspected components are identified and traceable back to purchase order/project numbers at all times
- Ensuring incoming goods (including kits) are correct prior to release to manufacture including correct documentation and certification as noted within the purchase order ensuring the rejection of any defective products are actioned in a timely manner
- Ensure certification received is correct and identified with company order numbers to maintain traceability (Mill Certificates, CoCs) and are passed promptly to the quality department
- Visit vendors as necessary to inspect components within the supply chain
- Identify and document defects, deviations, and non-conformities in products
- Conduct various tests and measurements to assess product quality, such as dimensional checks, visual inspections, and functional tests using a variety of inspection equipment provided by the business i.e. CMM arms, micrometres, verniers
- Responsible for ensuring required Quality Control information is logged as per defined requirements using identified methods i.e. MyCompliance, MRP (Progress Plus), written formats and any other relevant business software
Job Description:
- Conduct regular checks on kits/components prior to issue to ensure accuracy, record any anomalies
- Assisting in the production of Quality Control inspection plans and routings
- Carry out inspections on internally produced components i.e. stock items, laser cut plates, pressed sections etc.
- Ensuring that quality control inspections are carried out as detailed in quality processes, quality plans, inspection and test plans, routings and any other controlling documents
- Perform dimensional and visual inspection of shop fabrications during all identified stages of the process, including the visual inspection of welds
- Record and maintain fabrication quality records, including in-process traveller/route cards or other inspection records for quality assurance and production control
- Check that all stages conform with the fabrication drawings, project specification and any applicable code requirements
- Ensure that NDT inspections are carried out as required and that appropriate reports are received and passed to the Quality Department in a timely manner
- To ensure all products and services are free from defects, fabricated accurately and are in accordance with industry standard quality tolerances, company quality standards, project and MITP (manufacturing and inspection test plan) requirements
- Visually inspect any surface treatment applied to enable manufacture/final assembly to proceed
- Liaise with the paint applicators to ensure any quality issues associated with the paintworks are actioned in a timely manner
- Verify that the finished goods meet requirements, are undamaged, and all components (and components required to install the product) are packed correctly with appropriate photographic evidence
- Ensuring that required documentation at despatch is with the product
- Liaise with clients inspection teams to perform verification of products
- Produce and maintain non-conformance reports (NCR), assist with root cause investigations
- Participate in project close-out/lessons learned reviews
- Recognise health and safety is a responsibility of every individual, to take reasonable care of self and others and to comply with the company Health and Safety policies and any service specific procedures/rules that apply to the job
- Monitoring the contents and life of the CoSHH cupboard contents at all sites
- Any other ad hoc duties as may be required and as are commensurate with the grade of the post
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
- Certified licences to use the following: Site approved FLTs, Overhead Cranes
- Apprentice trained or experience in a similar environment
- Ability to be able to select the correct inspection equipment relative to the task
- Good numerous, written and IT skills (incl. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Communication skills across all levels of internal and external business
