Cryo-electron microscopy is a cutting-edge technology that enables researchers to study the 3D structure of biological molecules with unprecedented resolution. As Lead Cryo-EM Facility Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in managing our newly established cryo-EM facility, contributing to groundbreaking research and ensuring seamless operation of our state-of-the-art equipment. The facility is equipped with a range of instruments, including a JEOL cryoARM200 electron microscope and automated vitrification systems for sample preparation.
Your primary responsibility will be to manage daily operations, train users on instrument usage, and drive strategic development through process optimization and workflow improvements. You have experience in sample preparation techniques like plunge freezing or other forms of smart droplet-freezing. Be responsible for coordinating training sessions for staff members.
We are seeking an experienced expert who has worked extensively in single-particle analysis by using GPUs or high-performance computing resources (e.g., GPU instances from cloud providers). Excellent communication skills are crucial as this role requires close collaboration with multiple stakeholders within King's College London.
The ideal candidate should also possess advanced knowledge in machine learning algorithms applied to image processing tasks such as data conditioning (protection against outliers/artifacts), activity localization/correlation-based parameter estimation, aesthetic quality control/multidimensional reconstruction/analysis feedback loops via semantic user interfaces and eventual clustering visualization outputs based upon optimized evaluation metrics derived under compressive sensing regimes.
Key Requirements Include:
- Proficiency in developing software packages using low-level programming languages such as C++, Python, or Perl/Matlab.
- Familiarity with AI-fueled macroparameter image processing workflows especially focused towards spark detection.
- Ideally familiarised with computer optimisation and blurred background reconstruction techniques.
