Reports To: Claims Product Specialist and/or Claims Focus Group Leader, as per Beazley's organisation chart

Key Relationships: Claims staff, underwriters, insureds, brokers and service providers

Job Summary: To help achieve the Beazley vision of being the highest performing specialist insurer with a focus on mid to high value claims which may have coverage issues. To contribute to the overall performance, development, and management of the Beazley claims function. From a technical perspective, this will be achieved through proactive management of claims, primarily at the individual level but also at a portfolio level where required. A key requirement of the role is to assist in optimizing spend and achieving high levels of satisfaction for clients and brokers through high-quality claims management, resolution, and excellent client service. To support claims management to facilitate a collaborative approach across the claims function to learn, share ideas, and work in a manner that best meets client challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Claims Leadership: Manage individual claims proactively from notification to closure, with appropriate involvement based on the claim's nature, category, maturity, type, and quantum. Manage a portfolio of Category 2 and some Category 1 claims (expected or actual value over $250,000), including coverage litigation without allegations of bad faith, depending on training and approval. Adhere to Beazley's Claims Reserving Philosophy and Standards. Develop and execute claims strategies considering uncertainties, key decisions, potential outcomes, and costs. Implement Beazley's Conduct Risk Policy.
  • Claims Portfolio Management: Review claims within the portfolio regularly, maintaining reserves and records as per standards. Identify issues and trends, consult management/peers, and take corrective actions. Communicate material claims to Reinsurance and Finance as per protocols. Work with Reinsurance for claims recoveries.
  • Strategy and Business Planning: Align with strategic objectives and identify gaps or opportunities in claims management.
  • Working with Underwriters: Understand underwriting strategies and contribute to business development and renewal meetings. Provide claims insights during client interactions. Advise underwriters on claims experience and trends. Suggest policy wording improvements based on claims data.
  • Authority & Minimum Standards Observance: Operate within claims authorities and comply with regulations and standards.
  • Third Party Management: Manage relationships with third-party professionals, review performance, and ensure quality and compliance.
  • Broker and Insured Relations: Develop strong relationships and promote Beazley's brand of excellence.
  • Operational: Follow standardized claims processes and contribute to continuous improvement. Mentor junior staff, ensuring their development and knowledge growth.
  • Conflicts of Interest: Follow Beazley's conflicts policy, disclose conflicts, and manage them promptly.

General: Uphold Beazley's core values in all interactions and comply with policies, regulations, and licensing requirements. Participate in training and additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Qualifications: Graduate calibre

Skills and Abilities: Analytical, problem-solving, financial assessment, data analysis, decision-making skills. Time management, planning, achievement orientation, productivity focus. Influencing, client and broker management, communication, flexibility, active listening.

Knowledge and Experience: Legal training or claims experience in liability and settlement resolution. Knowledge of claims management, US/RoW insurance markets, legal and regulatory environments, and alternative dispute resolution.
