Salary: Grade 1 Point 3 – £25,614.00 (full-time equivalent), actual salary £12,237.62 per annum
Your total annual hours are calculated and paid in 12 monthly instalments, providing a consistent income all year round.
Hours: 20 hours per week (Term Time Only), 39 weeks per year
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 2.00pm
Reporting to: Catering Manager
Contract: Permanent, term time only

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a Catering Assistant to work as part of our busy school catering team. The successful candidate will support the Catering Manager and wider catering team in the preparation and service of high-quality, nutritious meals for our pupils and staff.

The main purpose of the post is to assist with the preparation and cooking of quality food and to ensure that high standards of food preparation, hygiene and service are maintained at all times.

General Responsibilities

  1. Handling and preparation of food.
  2. Preparing and assisting with cooking meals and dishes in accordance with the school menu cycle.
  3. Providing support to the Catering Manager.
  4. Learning and recording skills and recipes from other members of the team.
  5. Ensuring a clean, hygienic and safe working area.
  6. Ensuring the safe storage of food.
  7. Complying with food hygiene regulations, COSHH requirements and risk management practices.
  8. Carrying out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.

Cooking and Service

Duties will include:

  1. Assisting with the preparation and serving of food.
  2. Assisting with monitoring food stocks and stock movement.
  3. Ensuring that cleaning equipment and materials are safely stored.
  4. Undertaking emergency cleaning duties as required.
  5. Communicating politely and positively with pupils.

General Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to:

  1. Undertake the necessary training associated with the post.
  2. Ensure that duties and responsibilities are carried out in accordance with school policies.
  3. Undertake any reasonable duties as requested by the Catering Manager, School Business Manager or Headteacher.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for the school.
  5. Carry out all duties with regard to the school's policies.
  6. Participate in professional development to ensure skills and knowledge are kept up to date.
  7. Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable people that they are responsible for or come into contact with.
