Purpose of the job: To work as a keyperson and as part of the team under the direction of the Manager/Deputy Manager to provide safe, high quality education and care for young people., ยท To support the aims and objectives of the setting and assist the setting management team to effectively quality of teaching, ensuring your performance and behaviour is of a high standard.

ยท To take responsibility for developing and planning the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, to ensure that each child is working towards early learning goals. Ensuring effective planning of activities within the room that are age/stage appropriate i.e. resources/equipment and activities and that planning is always evidenced.

ยท Maintain effective communications with your colleagues and ensure any relevant people are informed of any information received where required.

ยท To liaise with outer agencies and parents/carers including encouraging parental involvement.

ยท To help set up the room for the daily activities and to help tidy away at the end of the session

ยท Maintaining continuous provision at all times e.g. sand and water out everyday and replenishment of daily equipment and resources and maintenance of general stock.

ยท To ensure that all toys and equipment are always clean and safe and to notify management of any faults.

ยท To ensure all areas of the setting indoor and outdoor environments are kept safe, clean and tidy at all times.

ยท To engage the children in all areas of learning and development, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.

ยท To act as a keyperson to a group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met.

ยท To carry out continuous observations so that a child’s attainment and progress can be effectively and regularly assessed. These observations and assessments must be used to inform planning.

ยท To ensure all records are kept up to date and regularly reviewed, these include maintaining children’s learning journeys and termly progress reports and 2 years checks where necessary within given timescales.

ยท To safeguard all children and to advise the Manager/Deputy Manager/ Designated Safeguarding Officers of any concerns regarding any children and their families or staff.

ยท To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.

ยท To be aware of any special/additional needs a child may have and to complete, monitor and/or familiarise one’s self with relevant care and learning plans e.g. Individual Education Plans; Health Care Plans; ABCC Charts and the SEND Code of Practice.

ยท To liaise with outer agencies and parents/carers including encouraging parental involvement.

ยท General day to day cleaning and hygiene must always be maintained to include food preparation areas as well as making sure that the fridge is kept clean. Toilet areas, nappy changing areas and potties should be left flushed and clean,

ยท To carry out and maintain daily, termly and annual risk assessments alongside the Health & Safety Co-ordinator.

ยท To attend staff meetings and other meetings as required, as well as outings and events.

ยท To attend training courses and in-house training as required maintaining continued professional development, any attended training must be implemented and shared with colleagues.

ยท Keep up to date with current good practice/legislation. To ensure a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage, Statutory Framework and all other legislation and legal requirements.

ยท To assist with promoting of the setting and committee.

ยท To adhere to the settings’ policies and procedures at all times, including the terms and conditions set out in your Employee and Health and Safety Handbook.

ยท To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Manager/Deputy Manager.

ยท To keep management informed of any changes in suitability to work with children including any health matters that may affect your suitability to work with children or impact on your job role; involvement with Children’s Services; police matters.

ยท When based in the Bumbles room, experience required in caring for babies.

ยท Ability to manage self and work calmly under pressure, maintaining a professional attitude at all times.

ยท Flexibility and adaptability to changing workloads.

  • Demonstrate professionalism in approach to managing issues

  • A clear understanding of the Ofsted standards and how to implement them.

  • Good computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Packages.

ยท A good, practical knowledge of Safeguarding and Health & Safety.

ยท Ability to communicate at all levels, verbally and in writing. This includes the ability to establish rapport and credibility with parents and the ability to produce clear, concise and well-written reports.

ยท A satisfactory enhanced DBS check and references which confirms suitability to work with children.

Desirable:

ยท Relevant childcare qualification at Level 2/3 or equivalent.

ยท A working knowledge of EYFS and sound understanding of child development and of children’s needs, taking into account the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding/child protection procedures and equality and diversity considerations.

ยท Prepared to be flexible i.e. to work additional hours as required.

  • Experience or knowledge of the voluntary sector.

ยท Previous experience working with young children.

ยท Understanding ICT and the use of online learning journeys (Tapestry).

ยท A current paediatric first aid certificate.
