The Federation of Winklebury Infant and Junior Schools was formed in 2009 and consists of a two-form entry infant school, including a school-based nursery, and a two-form entry junior school, which share the same site. The federation operates under one governing body and one leadership team and has a strong commitment to working collaboratively to provide a continuous learning journey and do the very best for all children. The schools serve a diverse community, with a rich mix of ethnicity, a high proportion of pupils eligible for pupil premium and a high number of children with special educational needs. Everyone in our community is welcomed, valued and respected, and we work hard to ensure that all children, families and staff feel a strong sense of belonging.

As a Thrive school, we promote a relational, nurturing approach to behaviour and wellbeing and place a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing, teamwork and professional learning.

The Federation of Winklebury Infant and Junior Schools is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and empathetic Learning Support Assistant. Initially this is a class LSA role to support the behaviour and learning of individuals and groups of children in a class in the Junior School, under the direction of the class teacher. Depending on the interests, skills and experience of the successful candidate, it may also include working across the federation, leading intervention groups and/or supporting children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis.

The successful candidate will:

  • be passionate about working with children and want to make a difference,
  • have a good understanding of safeguarding and always put the needs of the children first,
  • have a good understanding of how children learn and use this to support individuals and groups of children in their learning,
  • truly believe in inclusion, support the thrive approach and believe that every child has the right to the best possible education,
  • promote positive behaviour strategies and manage challenging behaviour according to agreed procedures in a calm, positive and consistent manner,
  • be patient, cheerful, enthusiastic and resilient,
  • have good literacy, numeracy and communication skills,
  • understand the importance of confidentiality in a school and maintain high levels of confidentiality,
  • be able to administer first aid and meet the medical needs of the children,
  • be able to support the organisation and the administration of health and safety protocols within school,
  • be a reflective learner who is always open to new initiatives.

We can offer:

  • the opportunity to work with fantastic children who enjoy school,
  • the chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of children and their families,
  • a strong, friendly school team, who will support you,
  • training and support linked to this role, and the opportunity to further your career.

Visits to the federation are welcomed and encouraged – we would love to show you our schools in action.

Please submit your Hampshire County Council application attached as soon as possible as we reserve the right to close a vacancy earlier than the advertised date and invite candidates to interview before the closing date if we receive applications that meet the criteria.
