BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving. The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country.

We have vacancies for Winter Patrol Drivers to join our existing operations team on a fixed term contract, to assist with our busy Winter Season. You will report to Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager and will be responsible for helping to keep Scotland moving.

Responsibilities and Activities:
  • Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spreading salt by hand if required.
  • Winter maintenance rota during the winter months driving our state-of-the-art snow ploughs, when conditions dictate.
  • Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.
  • Any other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Full UK Driving Licence and an LGV Class C Level is essential.
  • Knowledge of the requirement for Health and Safety rules and procedures.
  • Previous experience as a roadworker is desirable, however training can be provided.
  • There is a requirement to undertake training and to achieve competence in aspects of the job.
  • Physically fit.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines.
  • Holding tickets for plant, traffic management, and Health and Safety is an advantage.
  • Flexible working practices due to shift rotations.
