This Child Development Assistant position is full-time, fixed hours Monday-Friday. Rate of pay is $17.33 hourly. Eligible for medical benefits including health, vision, dental insurance and life insurance. SEP retirement plan after 13 months of employment.
Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English, must also have an AA or BS degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
Key FunctionUnder the general supervision of the PHS/EHS Center-based Coordinator, direct supervision may be assigned according to program needs. The Child Development Assistant will be trained in the positions of Teacher, Teacher Assistant, Classroom Assistant, and Food Manager in order to fill in where needed, providing services to children and families.
Responsibilities- Establishing a safe classroom environment through utilising best practices in classroom and behaviour management.
- Encouraging social and emotional development through positive behavioural support and direct social skills instruction.
- Enhancing student language skills through continuous verbal interactions in both direct and indirect instruction opportunities.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ensuring student safety through active supervision of students and the physical classroom environment.
- Ensuring that basic physical and emotional needs of students are met including: changing children’s clothing, assisting in toileting, and changing diapers.
- Long/short term substitute in the above mentioned areas when Head Start staff needs to take a long term leave of absence.
- Willing to travel to all service areas and fill in where needed to ensure continual quality program operations.
- Help ensure disability and male involvement requirements are completed as needed.
- Other duties as needed.
- AA or BS degree in Early Child Education or related field.
- Ability to work with young children and their families.
- Ability to be flexible and work well in a variety of areas.
- Experience working with young children required.
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able to sit, kneel, and get up from the floor and small chairs frequently.
All employment with Bear River Head Start is contingent upon Policy Council approval, and successful results of a background check. All applicants must also pass a drug test prior to hire including working with children and families. Refusal to submit to testing will result in disqualification of further employment consideration.
