Job Purpose

As Assistant Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the Food & Beverage operation at The Bear of Rodborough. Working closely with the senior management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the restaurant, bars, weddings, and events, while delivering exceptional guest experiences and leading a high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food & Beverage Operations
    • Oversee the daily operation of the restaurant and bar areas, ensuring consistently high standards of service, presentation, and cleanliness.
    • Lead service periods, ensuring smooth, efficient operations and outstanding guest satisfaction.
    • Ensure compliance with company standards, licensing regulations, food safety, and health & safety procedures.
    • Monitor service quality and proactively resolve guest feedback or complaints in a professional manner.
    • Support stock control, ordering, wastage management, and cost control to achieve departmental targets.
  • Weddings & Events
    • Take operational responsibility for weddings, private functions, and special events from set-up through to completion.
    • Liaise with clients and the events team to ensure all function requirements are delivered to the highest standard.
    • Coordinate food and beverage service during events, ensuring seamless execution and exceptional guest experiences.
    • Manage event teams to ensure efficient service and attention to detail throughout each function.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead, motivate, and develop the Food & Beverage team to deliver exceptional hospitality.
    • Conduct daily briefings and ensure team members are fully informed of menus, events, and operational priorities.
    • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management.
    • Create a positive and engaged working environment that encourages teamwork and accountability.
  • Operational Management
    • Assist in managing labour costs through effective rota planning and deployment of staff.
    • Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed accurately and securely.
    • Monitor departmental performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
    • Work collaboratively with the Kitchen, Reception, Housekeeping, and Events teams to ensure a seamless guest journey.
    • Act as Manager on Duty when required, taking responsibility for the overall operation of the hotel.

Skills & Experience Essential

  • Previous supervisory or management experience within a busy restaurant, hotel, or hospitality environment.
  • Experience managing bar and restaurant operations.
  • Experience delivering weddings, conferences, or large-scale events.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make effective operational decisions.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
