We're building a brand-new kitchen from scratch, and looking for two people to help shape it: an experienced Chef, and a Junior Chef ready to learn the trade.
Location: Quorn, Leicestershire (both roles)
About the café: The Bean and Bear is a new café in Quorn, Leicestershire, combining coffee and brunch dining with an indoor, booking-only soft play space for children. There's also an alfresco garden and outdoor event space, so the menu serves families, local businesses at lunch, and dog walkers and commuters too. It's a family-run business opening its doors for the first time, with the kitchen built from scratch.
Chef:
- Prepare and deliver a brunch-led menu including breakfast dishes, sandwiches, light lunches and baked goods
- Bake fresh in-house daily, from artisan-style pastries to seasonal traybakes
- Lead on menu development, bringing creative input to seasonal specials
- Manage day-to-day food safety and HACCP compliance in the kitchen
- Train and support a Junior Chef to confidently run the kitchen during your breaks and holiday cover
Essential: proven experience in a busy café, brunch or restaurant kitchen; confident baking skills; strong working knowledge of food safety and HACCP compliance; confidence training or mentoring a junior team member.
Useful, not essential: high-volume daytime or brunch service experience; an eye for current café and food trends.
Trainee Chef:
- Support the Chef with food prep, cooking and service throughout the day
- Learn in-house baking techniques, from pastries to seasonal traybakes
- Help keep the kitchen clean, organised and compliant with food safety standards
- Build the skills and confidence to run the kitchen solo during cover periods
Essential: some kitchen experience, professional or otherwise; willing to learn food safety and HACCP procedures; a reliable, hands-on approach.
Useful, not essential: interest in baking; Food Safety Level 2, or willingness to obtain it; previous café, brunch or restaurant experience.
