Team overview: Beam’s IT function ensures the entire organisation remains secure and efficient by managing a broad spectrum of responsibilities, from daily technical troubleshooting and hardware procurement to vendor management and employee onboarding. Beyond traditional support, the team focuses on high-impact areas like systems administration, DevOps, and cybersecurity, constantly building internal tools to automate processes and improve company-wide productivity. As the IT department is currently a team of one, this apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to work side‑by‑side with the IT Manager, gaining direct exposure to diverse technologies and complex business challenges. The role is inherently collaborative, requiring you to work cross‑functionally with every department—particularly Trust & Safety, People, and Finance—to improve operational systems. We maintain a curious and solutions‑focused culture, prioritising a friendly, approachable attitude while ensuring our colleagues have the tools they need to do their best work.

You’ll be:

  • Providing first-line IT support to colleagues by helping troubleshoot common technical issues and service desk requests.
  • Assisting with setting up laptops, accounts, and access for new starters, helping ensure smooth onboarding.
  • Supporting the management of devices, software licences, and SaaS tools used across the organisation.
  • Learning how to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues with guidance from the IT Manager.
  • Helping maintain accurate documentation for systems, processes, and internal IT guides.
  • Assisting with internal IT projects, including improving workflows, automation, and internal productivity tools.
  • Working with teams across the organisation to understand their needs and provide friendly, effective technical support.
  • Gradually gaining exposure to areas such as systems administration, security practices, and modern IT operations.

You are:

  • Humble, empathetic, and motivated to make a positive impact through your work.
  • Curious and excited about the possibilities of technology, including how AI can help people work smarter.
  • Eager to learn and comfortable asking questions when you encounter something new.
  • Proactive and willing to take initiative when solving problems or helping others.
  • Organised and detail‑oriented, with the ability to keep track of tasks and follow through.
  • A clear communicator who enjoys helping people and explaining things in a simple, friendly way.
  • Calm and patient when troubleshooting issues, even when the solution is not immediately obvious.
  • Comfortable with not always knowing the answer, but determined to find it.

You’ll need:

  • An interest in how technology works beyond everyday use, such as building PCs, fixing devices, or experimenting with software.
  • Some exposure to technical concepts like networking, operating systems, or troubleshooting common computer issues.
  • Experience using or exploring automation, scripting, or technical tools out of curiosity or personal projects.
  • An interest in emerging technologies such as AI and how they can improve productivity or solve real‑world problems.
  • Familiarity with collaboration or productivity tools used in modern workplaces (for example Google Workspace, Slack, or similar platforms).
  • Experience learning about technology independently through online courses, tutorials, forums, or personal experimentation.

Please note, this is an Apprenticeship opportunity. 80% (4 days per week) will be working on the job, 20% (1 day per week) will be training. The apprenticeship will be part of a Level 3 IT Solutions Technician standard.
