Beam was founded in 2012 by three engineers who saw the opportunity to modernise the dental benefits industry using technology. The first product was the Beam Brush, which was one of the earliest examples of the Internet of Things in healthcare. Today, Beam Benefits is available in 40+ states and has expanded beyond dental. Beam is now simplifying and modernising a robust suite of ancillary employee benefits through an intuitive digital platform, self-service tools, AI-powered pricing, support from Beam’s helpful representatives, and a unique Beam Perks™ rewards program. This winning combination allows us to deliver a simple, smart, and wellness-focused experience for brokers, employers, and members. We operate in a regulated environment where speed, reliability, and correctness must coexist. As we scale, AI is foundational to how we build.

We’re hiring for Software Engineers who leverage AI tools daily to enhance delivery speed and code quality, while applying thoughtful engineering judgment for critical tasks. These are hands-on roles for engineers who care about building software that makes a real difference. You’ll help create systems that make it easier for people to access and understand their benefits, while modernising how we build software as a team.
You will:
- Drive Code Delivery: Write high-quality production code for user-facing workflows, spending the majority of your time on hands-on development.
- Leverage AI for Efficiency: Use AI tools responsibly to increase delivery speed, generate and strengthen automated tests, and focus efforts on meaningful engineering challenges by reducing repetitive tasks.
- Ensure System Integrity: Validate, refactor, and simplify AI-generated output, strengthening the reliability and maintainability of the systems you touch.
- Apply Engineering Judgment: Exercise thoughtful engineering judgment and growing autonomy when tackling assigned features and critical tasks.
What You’ll Work On
- Improving Access to Benefits: Build product features that make it easier for employers and brokers to offer benefits to people. Improve workflows that reduce complexity and manual effort. Help create intuitive, intelligent experiences that guide users through important decisions.
- Building Thoughtful Integrations: Develop APIs that allow partners to connect with Beam’s platform in a clear and reliable way. Help standardise integrations so systems work together seamlessly. Improve validation and reliability at key points in the system.
- Using AI to Build Better Software: Use AI tools (Cursor, Augment, Claude) to work more efficiently and improve code quality. Generate and strengthen automated tests alongside feature development. Reduce repetitive tasks so you can focus on meaningful engineering work.
- Creating Reliable, Trustworthy Systems: Strengthen logging and monitoring in the areas you build. Help ensure user-facing workflows are stable and predictable. Contribute to building software people can rely on.
Who We're Looking for
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on coding ability in a modern web stack (we primarily use React and Ruby on Rails, but value transferable experience from comparable frameworks).
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc.) to improve development workflows, such as code generation, test creation, refactoring, or documentation.
- Familiarity with integrating third-party APIs - including AI-powered services - is a plus.
- Solid understanding of testing and debugging.
- Comfort working in cloud-based environments.
We value engineers who demonstrate GRIT - who pursue Growth in their craft, show Resilience under pressure, deliver measurable Impact, and strengthen the Team around them.
