Overview
Specialist Mentor (Mental Health) – Beacon Support. Location: Newcastle upon Tyne NE RU, United Kingdom. This is a part-time, zero hours contract, fixed term/rolling contract opportunity. Applicants must have the latest education/graduate level (GCSE mentioned in original description) and be willing to meet with students face-to-face if required. Responsibilities
Beacon Support Ltd. are recruiting Specialist Mentors to support Higher Education students. The position offers flexible hours to work around you, whilst helping to make a difference to students\’ educational experiences. You will support students with disabilities/mental health conditions, helping them to learn coping strategies and overcome disability-related difficulties. You will encourage students to build on strengths, introduce appropriate interventions to develop confidence and organizational skills, manage workload, and address issues impacting study. Sessions are tailored to individual requirements and use a Mentor Action Plan (MAP) to frame sessions and negotiate responsibilities and expectations.
Key duties include:
- Provide one-to-one mentoring support to higher education students
- Develop coping strategies and study-related interventions
- Manage own case load with access to support management
- Follow MAP to structure sessions and set goals
Requirements / Qualifications
Requirements:
Ideally experience of working with students with specific learning difficulties (SpLDs) in higher or further education. Applicants must be willing to meet with students face-to-face if required. This is a specialist role requiring professional membership with one of the listed organisations (see below).
Membership / Qualifications:
- National Counsellor Accreditation Certificate (NCAC)
- Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) – Full membership
- Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions – Accredited or full membership
- The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) – Full Accredited membership
- The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) – Registered or Accredited Member
- British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) – Registrant
- British Psychological Society (BPS) – etc. (see list in original)
