Beacon Primary Care is a community practice serving approximately 17,000 patients across West Lancashire. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic medical receptionist to join our busy and supportive team. In this role you will be the first point of contact for patients and will provide a professional, friendly, and efficient service at all times, ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day running of the practice.
Employment Details
- Hours: 30 hours over 5 days per week.
- Reports to: Practice Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Open and secure the practice premises in accordance with established protocols.
- Manage and maintain the appointments system efficiently.
- Process patient requests for appointments, home visits, and telephone consultations.
- Signpost patients and callers to the appropriate healthcare professional or service.
- Handle, scan, and prioritize incoming and outgoing mail.
- Take accurate messages and ensure timely communication with relevant staff.
- Enter, update, and maintain patient records in line with practice procedures.
- Respond to enquiries from patients, colleagues, and external healthcare providers.
- Support the clinical team by preparing and clearing consulting rooms when required.
- Provide general administrative and clerical support to the wider team.
Qualifications
- GCSE level education or equivalent working experience.
- Experience in personal, telephone, or customer‑service environments.
- Good standard of English grammar and spelling.
- Accurate and thorough work, including filing.
- Computer skills with good keyboard speed.
- Friendly, approachable manner with good people skills.
- Clear and effective communication, written and verbal.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills with ability to prioritise work.
- Adaptable, flexible, and capable of working calmly under pressure.
- Ability to handle occasional exposure to challenging behaviour or emotional events.
- Respect for confidentiality and sensitive personal information.
- Positive team member, able to influence others constructively.
- Good attendance.
- Commitment to supporting a diverse population.
- Experience in a healthcare setting and clerical work is preferred.
