Salaried GP in Plymouth

The duties of the post holder are to provide a full range of general medical services as contained within the National Health Services (Primary Care) Act 1997 and which will include:

• Face to Face appointments, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, video consultations, prescribing (including checking and authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries), patient test results, QOF reviews, patient medical reports on behalf of the Practice as well as referral letters and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
• Support the partners of Beacon Medical Group in providing all Primary Medical Services in line with contractual and regulatory frameworks.
• Support the Board and Beacon Medical Group's vision encompassing the NHS Strategy for Primary Care and diversification of services outside the core business.
• Help support and input into the aims of the Group in areas of clinical governance, good practice, quality outcomes framework, enhanced services, practice audit, referral review and any other improvement plans as determined by the Board.
• Maintain and keep good standards of clinical records on SystmOne and abide by Group policy, clinical templates, and protocols at all times.
• Utilise and develop any skills for the improvement of services to patients, such as minor operations, child health surveillance, family planning training etc.

Clinical Duties:

• The practice operates a total triage system for all Routine and Urgent GP appointments.
• GP appointment requests are made by phone and online consultation.
• Undertake a pro rate share of duty clinics, covering the role of duty GP during practice contracted operating hours.
• Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
• Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
• Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
• Consult people with acute conditions, on-going chronic conditions which will also include reviews based on the QOF.
• Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using IT systems.
• Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions including EPS.
• Work in accordance with all relevant clinical guidelines, pathways, and protocols, including agreed standard data entry processes.
• Undertake home visits to support housebound patients.
• Follow up results, x-rays, correspondence related to your allocated clinical list of patients.
• Delegate tasks or responsibilities to other staff, as appropriate.
• Participate in QOF clinics and student supervising.

Patient List Allocation:

• Your patient list will be allocated to you, based on 220 per session.
• The Group may seek to increase or reduce that number according to current patient numbers.

Administration/Paperwork:

• Complete all administrative duties related to your clinical work.
• Referrals should be completed on a daily basis in line with Group policy.
• Action results for your allocation of patients.

Remote Working:

• Complete examinations and reports for any external agency in line with agreed policy.
• Use appropriate processes for computerised record keeping.

Group and Continual Professional Development:

• Allocate time for mentoring, buddying and peer support.
• Participate in discussions on clinical practice standards and developing practice protocols.
• Access to an online training platform and undertake all Group mandatory training.
• Study leave is detailed in your contract and will be added to your annual leave allocation.
