Our client is a global software provider delivering technology solutions to clients across financial services and wealth management. The client is seeking an In-House Legal Counsel to join their global legal function, in London. This role is ideal for someone experienced in commercial technology matters who enjoys working closely with global product, commercial and operational teams. The successful candidate will support a wide range of legal work and have significant autonomy and exposure to stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate and advise on a variety of commercial agreements, with a strong emphasis on software licensing, SaaS, managed services and technology-related contracts.
- Support business units on complex commercial negotiations with customers, suppliers and partners.
- Provide guidance on data protection, privacy, intellectual property and regulatory considerations impacting software and digital products.
- Identify and manage legal and commercial risks, ensuring alignment with company policies and relevant legislation.
- Advise internal stakeholders (EMEA and AsiaPac) across product, engineering, commercial, HR and operations.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancement of templates, playbooks, legal processes and governance frameworks.
- Provide pragmatic, solution-oriented legal advice that supports commercial decision-making.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified solicitor in a common law jurisdiction.
- Around 5+ years’ post-qualification experience, gained within a reputable law firm environment; in-house experience within a software, technology or fintech business is highly advantageous.
- Must have proven experience advising on GDPR and European data protection frameworks, indicating existing experience within the UK or Europe.
- Strong experience in software contracting (SaaS, licensing, professional services).
- Solid understanding of IP ownership and technology-related legal issues.
- Confident lead negotiator on high-value and complex contracts.
- Ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced and evolving business.
- Strong communicator who can simplify complex legal issues for non-lawyers.
- Proactive, hands-on and comfortable taking ownership.
